I've been doing several JIRA Portfolio demonstrations lately, and yesterday I encountered the "The timeframe of the scheduled items in your backlog exceeds the limit of the planning horizon" error during a client presentation (Oops!) Luckily, I had other Plans available, so I was able to carry on, but it did look weird. After playing around with the broken plan this morning, I was not able to find the error. I reported it to Atlassian. I will update this post once I have a solution.
I'm using JIRA Portfolio version 1.8.4 (latest at the time) on a JIRA 6.3.14 instance (Also latest)
I have a JIRA Portfolio plan created, I set up on Team with the Kanban schedule. I created one version, scheduled to start today, Tuesday February 3rd 2015, and to end on Monday February 9th 2015. I created a Backlog with one Initiative that contains two Epics, on of them has two stories worth a grand total of 10 days of effort estimated.
This is what I get:
When I place my mouse cursor on the red line, I get this error: The scheduled items in you backlog exceed the limit of the planning horizon. Ensure your schedule fits into the planning horizon limit of 5 years by reducing the number of backlog items or their estimates or adjusting your teams' capacities.
Again, I only have 10 days worth of items in my Backlog, so I guess there must be something wrong with my Team.
So far I haven't found the problem, but I will update as soon as I do. Stay tuned!
